Make study fun not a chore

Study tips to help you succeed and a quiz to understand your unique learning style.

It is very rewarding to study and to enhance your nursing career prospects but it can also be stressful at times. First take this quiz to see what kind of learner you are – click here

The answers will show you how to make the most of your study time. Here are a few study tips

  •  Make a space in your house. It may be a desk or the dining room table
  • find the space that feels right for you.
  • Make sure you have everything handy i.e. pens, books, glasses, computer, water etc.
  • Ensure the space is not cluttered as it may be distracting.
  • Turn off your phone and tell the kids, partner or flatmates not to disturb you.
  • Pin up some positive image posters around your space.
  • Get a mantra and make a poster like “It’s the journey not the destination” or “make my actions stronger than my excuses” whatever works for you. Go to or Google images to find posters.
  • Find the time of day that is best for you to study and stick to it.
  • Put your student hat on and remember when you are at your desk you are a student.
  • Set a timer and study in small chunks – 30 minutes at a time. After each chunk reward yourself. After a big session give yourself a big reward.
  • Keep reminding yourself why you are studying
  • Play music to create the mood you need. You may need firing up so put on some pumped up music or you may need to focus, so some other style may suit you. There are Internet radio stations that have a huge range of music styles and you can switch it up. One is AccuRadio there is also Spotify and Pandora.
  • Eat healthy snacks and get plenty of rest – if you getting stressed go for a walk and come back to study later (but not too much later).
  • Count down the weeks till you finish so you have an end goal in sight.
