Course Description

This qualification applies to community work delivered through a broad range of services which
provide support to individuals and groups through the provision of person-centered services. Work
may include day-to-day support of individuals in community settings or support the implementation
of specific community-based programs. You will learn effective communication strategies, gain
cultural awareness and skills in advocacy to be able to provide emotional and practical support to
clients, including initiating referrals. This level is appropriate for support workers acting under the
supervision of more experienced staff.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered via DP Learning@Home model, offering the opportunity to study your way

  • Training Materials offered using electronic based delivery,
  • Trainers/Assessors being available to support you through email and/or telephone contact.
  • 12 units of competency
  • The opportunity to participate trainer-led study support sessions every Wednesday (9:00am – 12:00pm) for the duration of your course
  • Self-paced (up to 12 months to complete)

RPL

  • Any person currently working in the industry has the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment only pathway, If you consider yourself to already have the knowledge and skills for the qualification.
  • You will be required to successfully demonstrate that you have acquired the required knowledge and skills specified in the training package through formal, non-formal and informal learning. To demonstrate your knowledge and skills assessed via the RPL process, please take our skill assessment below and select RPL on your enrolment form.

Course Entry Requirements

The target learners and entry requirements for this course must:

  • be over 15 years of age, and no longer attending secondary school
  • undertake Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Skills Indicator assessment questionnaire
  • ability to undertake vocational placement, which includes manual handling tasks
  • have technological skills to undertake computer/online work and have access to a computer and software with the following minimum specifications
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader/Adobe Flash Player and up to date internet browser

This qualification is made up of 12 units of competency (5 core, 7 elective) which reflect the needs of industry.

To receive an award for this qualification Students are required to complete all units listed above as competent  within a period of 12 months.

Students will be provided with all the Student training and assessment materials for each unit of competency required to complete the course

Fees & Funding

Fee For Service (not eligible for government funding)

  • A Full Fee paying student – total course fee $2,150
  • RPL assessment ONLY – total course fee $1,500
  • Gap training – $100 per unit

To commence a $250 deposit is required prior to commencing training and assessment, with weekly, fortnightly and monthly payment plans to pay the remaining fees.

Queensland Government Funding
Higher Level Skills Funding, a Queensland Government Initiative

The Certificate 3 Guarantee supports eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III qualification and increase your skills to move into employment, re-enter the workforce or advance your career. It also supports school students to access training and Queensland’s Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing free training in high priority qualifications.

DP Training is able to offer Queensland Government funding to eligible students, under the Certificate 3 Guarantee subsidy.  If a person is eligible for funding under Certificate 3 Guarantee, the Queensland Government will subsidise the costs of their accredited training, although a student contribution fee will be required.

Call DP Training to check if you meet the eligibility criteria or answer the questions below. The student contribution fee can be as little as $65 for a concession card holder or $95 for non-concession enrolment.
